David Skernick Exhibition at ArtLA Gallery Bergamont Station

David Skernick is a landscape and wildlife photographer who offers photo trips here at Samy’s Camera EDU.  He has a new book out called “Lost On Gray Roads” which is a collection of photographs from his may road trips across America.  He is having an exhibition of his works and a book signing at the ArtLA Gallery at Bergamont Station on Saturday October 13th, 2012 from 6Pm-9PM.  The Exhibition runs through November 11th.

David’s next Samy’s trip is to Mono Lake and Bodie Ghost Town October 25th-28th.  David’s photography travel trips are a unique value for nature and landscape enthusiasts. These are for people who want great photographic opportunities and destinations, but don’t want to spend a lot of money doing it. David’s trips focus on the photographic moment. They are meticulously scouted for the best light and subjects, and almost always result in fantastic opportunities. David’s 35 years of experience brings tremendous skill and intimate knowledge of all his destinations (each of which he’s visited dozens of times over the years). This combined with his great sense of humor make trips fascinating, productive, and fun.

Sequoia National Park with David Skernick

David Skernick is leading a long weekend photo trip to the Sequoia National Park that leaves on Friday January 20th and returns on Sunday January 22.  This trip is priced affordably at $525 and includes your motel for 2 nights, one great picnic lunch, and all the instruction you can handle.  It is about a 5-hour drive to Sequoia National Park so David will email all the participants ahead of time so they can make plans to carpool and share expenses.

If you are looking to have your triple grande no foam latte hand-delivered to you every morning, and start rolling around 11AM, this trip probably isn’t for you. Solvang Travel Workshop and Wine Tasting

I’ve got the best job in the world.  I get to create unique and exciting workshops for Samy’s customers.  I tend to produce events that I would want to attend so I’m really pleased to announce a photo excursion to Solvang that includes a wine tasting and three course meal.

Instructor Gregg Carr will start off this travel adventure at the lovely Petersen Village Inn  for a continental breakfast followed by a photo workshop in the courtyard.  This hands on event will continue into downtown Solvang where students will practice travel and street photography.  After a break for lunch, the class will move to the Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards for more photo opportunities as well as a wine tasting.  The day is concluded back at the hotel for a 3 course dinner and image critique at Cafe Provence.

This travel excursion is limited to 16 people so register now and don’t miss out.

Solvang is the Danish Capital of America.  Quaint Old World Color architectural styles blend with flower-lined streets to create a walkable village. Storks peek down from thatch, copper and tile roofs; while delightful shops offer imported European wares: porcelain, collectibles, wrought iron and every form of handicraft. The aroma of chocolate, bakeries, coffee and beer garden fare flavor the quaint streets. Solvang offers you a Shopping Showcase of unusual, quality imports and collectibles from 200+ merchants.

Food lovers really appreciate Solvang. They adore the Danish pastries, cookies and breads prepared in our bakeries, and they relish the frikadeller (meat balls), medisterpolse (sausages) and rodkaal (red cabbage) served in many restaurants. No visit is complete without tasting aebleskiver, the jam-draped, powdered sugar-dusted Danish pancake balls. But visitors also can choose from a wide variety of restaurants preparing traditional American and ethnic cuisine. - About Solvang

How to Fund your Wanderlust

Samy’s own Deborah Cloyd is holding a seminar called How to Fund your Wanderlust: Travel writing, Art Photography, Reality Television, and a Novel!  This seminar is in conjunction with the release of her novel The Summer We Came to Life on May 31st.

Deborah has lived in in six countries and traveled to dozens more.   Learn how she’s been able to turn a love of travel into multiple career paths including fine art photography, travel writing, reality TV and now a debut novel with MIRA Books/Harlequin.

I’ll reveal how I got on CBS’ The Amazing Race, what it was really like.   I’ll talk about the road to publication – how to turn your travel experiences into fiction and into a book deal and I’ll be discussing how to incorporate charity and outreach into your travels.

Join Deborah on June 9th and get a signed copy of her book which is included in the class fee of $25.  In addition to sharing her secrets for funding her wanderlust, she will be doing a special presentation of her travel photographs from the novel’s setting in Honduras, plus additional photographs from Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.  Register Here.
